The Tesla era is over: These manufacturers are supposed to dethrone the e-car king


Tesla is the undisputed king of electric cars, no other manufacturer can hold a candle to the US company. At least that’s how it looks so far. But experts expect that Tesla’s supremacy will soon come to an end.

Tesla will lose: e-car racing is competition among itself

Tesla’s descent will probably not be long in coming. That’s what Bank of America calculates in its annual “Car Wars” study. The e-car pioneer from the USA is still the market leader at home and worldwide. But it will not stop there, other well-known manufacturers should take over the scepter.

At home, the analysts from America expect that Significant market shares are being taken from Tesla by Ford and GM: According to expert John Murphy, Tesla is likely to fall from over 70 percent of the US electric car market today to just 11 percent in the next three years. With 15 percent each, the two long-established competitors would then be ahead of Elon Musk’s hobby horse (source: Finanzen.ch).

Murphy sees the blame for this at Tesla: The range of the e-car pioneer is too small and let many gaps for the competition to fill. In addition, Tesla’s speed is criticized. An existing model can be built incomparably quickly in the gigafactories. But developing new vehicles takes too long at Tesla. Cybertruck and Roadster say hello.

The expert also sharply criticizes Tesla boss Elon Musk: He is himself too sure to be uncatchable. But that is exactly what happened: the old manufacturers learned from Tesla. Murphy says: “Tesla’s dominance in the EV market, particularly in the US, is over. The whole thing will shift very clearly in the opposite direction over the next four years.” He concedes that Ford has the best chance of scoring points with new models – at least in the USA.
