Le Bon Coin, France’s favorite classifieds site, has just published a report on the used electric car market. To everyone’s surprise, the Renault Zoé is no longer the most sought-after second-hand model, but the Tesla Model 3.
While global sales of electric cars are expected to increase by 35% in 2023, the share of electric cars on the second-hand market is still minimal. According to the latest report from Le Bon Coin, “watted” cars today represent 3% of total vehicle listings.
However, things are changing at breakneck speed according to Olivier Flavier, vice-president Mobility LeBoncoin. “We have seen a tripling of electric vehicle ads published on the platform in one year. But this remains a very recent trend, which depends on the new home market and its development. We estimate that the real inflection point and the mass switch to electric will not take place for three or four years”, he explains.
The Model 3, the most sought-after used electric car
And on the French market, what are the most popular second-hand electric models? According to the study of the classifieds site, the Tesla Model 3 occupies the first place. Indeed, the American electric sedan represents a little less than 20% of queries.
Rather surprising since we legitimately thought to find at the head of the classification the Renault Zoe, on the strength of its ten years of presence on the French market and the substantial number of second-hand units available. But no, the city car of the diamond brand occupies the second step of the podium with 11% of requests.

Importantly, Le Bon Coin highlights a collapse of the coast of the first models since the arrival of a revamped version with a new battery in 2019. This may explain the disenchantment of users for the first generation Zoé. Then we find in 3rd and 4th place two other cars stamped Tesla: thea Model S and Model Ywith respectively 6 and 4% of requests.
No surprise here, since Model S and Model Y deliveries began in France a year and a half ago. Finally, thea Peugeot e-208 monopolizes 5th position with 3% of queries on the Good Corner. Please note, however, that this study focuses on the number of requests on the classifieds site.
If we rely on the registrations of used electric models in 2022, the Renault Zoé remains well ahead with a number of buyers 5.5 times greater than that of the Model 3 last year.
