Tesla has revealed that the Model Y, which is already the world’s best-selling electric car, is still on course to become the best-selling car next year if no issues hamper production.
Tesla has announced that the Model Y is on track to become the world’s best-selling car by revenue this year, and will be probably the best-selling vehicle by total volume next year. As a reminder, the Model Y is already the best-selling electric car, since it recently dethroned the more affordable Model 3 sedan.
The American manufacturer is now confident that its Model Y will be next year’s most popular car of all vehicles. Currently, the best-selling vehicle in the world is the Toyota Corolla with approximately 1,150,000 sales. However, Tesla intends to overtake the Japanese giant next year thanks to its four Gigafactories with ever faster production rates.
Tesla is betting everything on the production of its Model Y
The Tesla Model Y is so popular around the world that it is currently produced by the four Tesla Gigafactories : Berlin, Fremont, Austin and Shanghai. Based on Q2 2022 numbers, Tesla should have sold by the end of the year several hundred thousand Model Y.
Tesla has just inaugurated its Gigafactory in Germany and Texas, and these have not yet had time to reach the same production rate as the manufacturer’s other factories. In July 2022, for example, Tesla only sold 75 Model Ys in France, but the Gigafatory in Berlin should produce several hundred thousand copies per year from next year.
In 2016, even before the car was launched, CEO Elon Musk had already predicted that the Model Y would double the demand for the Model 3. At that time, Musk believed that demand for the Model Y would be between 500,000 and 1 million per year. Tesla now has the production line necessary to produce more than a million vehicles per year, and should ensure at least 2 million vehicle shipments in 2023. Elon Musk’s company has therefore every chance of making the Tesla Model Y the most popular car next year.
