The Tesla Model Y transforms into a two-seater utility vehicle: the new king of taxation

While its seven-seater version is still not available in Europe, the Tesla Model Y will be available in a two-seater utility configuration. It was Clément Maguet, Senior Account Manager at Tesla France, who made this surprising announcement on LinkedIn.

This is the first time that Tesla has demonstrated ambitions in the utility vehicle market in France, where the Cybertruck and Semi are not imported.

The version of the Model Y with the most autonomy… and the least taxes

We thus learn that a utility version of the Model Y will be marketed on the French market, abandoning its rear seat as on a Clio Société, for example.

“Provided with a storage capacity of 2️158 l and offering a range of up to 565 km (WLTP cycle)”, the utility Model Y will therefore have a greater range than the other versions, certainly thanks to its lower mass due to the absence of a rear seat. The five-seater Model Y Grande Autonomie currently has a range of 533 km.

We do not yet know the price of this two-seater Model Y, the conversion of which into a utility vehicle will be carried out by the French specialist Gruau.

Rémy Givelet, head of corporate sales at Tesla France, however explained on LinkedIn that this new version intended for professionals would be classified in the M1 category, like other cars. As a result, it will not have access to the ecological bonus, now reserved for vans for professional buyers. On the other hand, this version will be registered as a “VP derivative” utility, which will allow companies to recover the VAT amount. Furthermore, like other electric vehicles, this utility Model Y will not be liable for TVS.

Let’s hope that this advantageous taxation will not become the main purchasing motivation for companies, at the risk of seeing a proliferation of 2t electric SUVs used to move one or two people, without unusually large loads.
