While no new Tesla was to see the light of day in 2022, Elon Musk has just announced that the first Tesla Semi electric trucks will be delivered before the end of the year.
The Tesla Semi was announced in 2017 for an estimated production then in 2019. As so often with Tesla, there was a spatio-temporal flaw in the realization of this project. This is ultimately the case with all the brand’s models, apart from goodies like Tequila. This August 10, 2022, Elon Musk claims via a tweet that deliveries of Tesla Semis will begin before the end of the year.
Tesla Semis have been produced in small quantities for a while now. These first models are notably used by Tesla to deliver cars or install superchargers. For the moment, no customer has received the delivery of his order, but things could finally speed up on this side in the USA.
Deliveries start with the Semi 500 miles
The Tesla Semi is planned with two versions, one of 800 km of range (500 miles) and one of 480 km (300 miles). The Tesla Semis are supposed to be equipped with Tesla’s new 4680 batteries, which would partly explain the delay in the project.
As always, Tesla will start fulfilling orders for the highest-end version at $180,000. Elon Musk made it clear that deliveries would begin for the 500-mile Semi model and not the Tesla Semi, all versions combined.
How does Tesla appeal to customers for this model?
Tesla introduces its model with the following description: “ Semi is the safest and most comfortable truck around. Four independent motors provide maximum power and acceleration and require the lowest energy cost per mile. »
It must be said that Tesla promises more than 200,000 dollars (or 194,000 euros) in fuel savings with its Tesla Semi, which is quite promising for road transport. Will the Tesla Semi keep its promises? We will have to wait for the first customers to run these electric trucks to find out, because little information is leaking from Tesla on their tests.
In any case, these promises have attracted several large companies. Among the customers most eager to receive their order is PepsiCo. The company had already communicated on the arrival at the end of 2021 of around fifteen Tesla Semis. It would seem that this company is the first customer delivered, since Tesla has already installed “Megacharger” near it, or superchargers dedicated to trucks, necessary to ensure the recharging of these electric trucks at the logistics center.
Promises bind only those who listen to them. It remains to be seen if Tesla will be able to meet the deadlines announced by Elon Musk on Twitter. Some observers still have some doubts on the matter. Your bets!
