Smartwatches running Wear OS 3 are still rare, and it took Mobvoi several months to launch its fifth-generation TicWatch Pro. The wait could be worth it, however, since the Chinese manufacturer is the first to use the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 platform, promising more power, improved connectivity and above all better energy efficiency. What, on paper, makes the TicWatch Pro 5 a watch that is both efficient and durable.

A large battery and a secondary screen for autonomy

It must be said that watches under Wear OS have so far not shone with their autonomy, quite the contrary. Mobvoi has therefore decided to go all out to correct the situation with its new TicWatch. The Pro 5 thus embeds a 628 mAh battery which would provide it with up to 80 hours of autonomy and recharges to 65% in just 30 minutes.

To exceed three days of use, the TicWatch Pro 5 also uses a second very low-power monochrome screen which sits above the AMOLED screen and replaces it during sports activities or during sleep. For example. Its backlight can change color to indicate the heart rate zone in which you are located.

Sportier than the Pixel Watch

In terms of interface, the TicWatch Pro 5 is visibly inspired by the Pixel Watch, gaining a rotating crown to navigate the menus and scroll through information tiles during an exercise, without necessarily using the touch screen.

In addition to its Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip, the TicWatch Pro 5 relies on various sensors: compass, barometer and multi-GNSS chip ensure that it can respond to different sports uses (more than 100 modes available), especially outdoors. However, it is necessary to do without the double GPS frequency. The watch also meets the military standard MIL-STD-810H for its resistance to external elements (climate changes, pressure and temperature variations) and displays a 5 ATM certification ensuring its compatibility with swimming. No titanium or sapphire crystal, however: its case is made of aluminum and its glass is Gorilla Glass.

Five post-exercise health measures

On the health side, the TicWatch Pro 5 offers continuous heart rate, stress and sleep tracking. It also offers a feature to trigger five health metrics at once (heart and respiratory rates, blood oxygen, stress level, and heart health rating) after exercise.

The Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5 is already available for €359.99.
