The Golden Globe contender "The Trail of the Chicago 7" can be viewed free of charge on YouTube until Sunday.
Anyone interested in the socially critical court thriller "The Trail of the Chicago 7" can watch Aaron Sorkin's (59, "Molly's Game") film free of charge on the official Netflix website until February 21st until 8:59 am View account on YouTube. This is a special event on the occasion of the anniversary of the scandalous judgment of February 18, 1970, about which the film is, among other things. The film is available for 48 hours in the original English version and in HD quality; eight languages (including German, English, French and Spanish) can be added as subtitles if required.
The fact that "The Trail of the Chicago 7" is drama food well worth seeing can be seen when looking at this year's nominations for the Golden Globes, which will be awarded on February 28th. The film is nominated in five categories: for "Best Film", Sorkin for "Best Director" and "Best Screenplay", Sacha Baron Cohen (49) as "Best Supporting Actor" and the song "Hear My Voice" as the " Best movie song ". He could also be one of the favorites at the Oscars in April this year. The flick also features world stars such as Eddie Redmayne (39), Michael Keaton (69), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (40) and Mark Rylance (61).
Nixon-era judicial scandal
The film tells the true story of a group of men who gathered in Chicago in 1968 to peacefully demonstrate against the Vietnam War. But after the police used violence against the demonstrators, the situation escalated – street battles broke out between officials and Protestants over several days. Months after the riots, eight and then seven men found themselves in court. They were identified by the authorities as the alleged masterminds behind the riot and charged with conspiracy charges. They went down in history as the "Chicago Seven".
"The Trail of the Chicago 7" was supposed to be released in cinemas worldwide in October of last year. Because of the corona pandemic, however, streaming provider Netflix ultimately won the bid and made the film available to its subscribers from October 16.
