The truth if I lie 2: why Gad Elmaleh took over the role of Vincent Elbaz in this sequel

Released in cinemas in 2001, the cult movie The truth if I lie 2worn by Richard Anconina, José Garcia, Bruno Solo, Gad Elmaleh, Aure Atika and Gilbert Melkiwill be rebroadcast on Sunday, May 8, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on W9. Directed by Thomas Gilouthis feature film is the sequel to the cult comedy The truth if I lie, released in theaters 4 years earlier. It again features the characters of Eddie, Dov and Yvan, respectively played by Richard Anconina, Gad Elmaleh, and Bruno Solo. These 3 friends are partners in a textile company in the Sentier district of Paris.

After yet another problem with a retailer who cannot pay for his merchandise, they undertake to set foot in the ruthless world of mass distribution, by working with a European chain of hypermarkets. With a production budget of around 12.5 million euros, The truth if I lie 2 was a huge commercial success, given that the film achieved more than 7.7 million admissions during its theatrical run. A score much higher than that of the previous opus, which had come close to 5 million admissions in theaters when it was released in 1997.

The truth if I lie 2: Gad Elmaleh refused to play in the first film

If Vincent Elbaz lent his features to the character of Dov in the first part, this role was taken over by Gad Elmaleh in this sequel. Initially, the production had offered the comedian to play the character of Dov in the first film, but the latter had declined to play with Gérard Depardieu in the feature film called XXL. Thomas Gilou said for the release of the 2nd opus that he had recontacted Gad Elmaleh, and that the latter had answered with aplomb and derision that he refused the role to play in XXL 2. On his side, Vincent Elbaz has been contacted by the production to reprise her role in this sequel, but ultimately declined, leaving his place to Gad Elmaleh. Vincent Elbaz will finally play the character of Dov again in The truth if I lie ! 3.
