The Twisted Metal series finds a diffuser

If the multiplicity of distribution platforms undoubtedly suits Sony, which has the freedom to compete and accept the best offer on a case-by-case basis (The Last of Us on HBO Max, Twisted Metal on Peacock), the European public remains in expectation as to its chances of being able to watch these series since a platform like Peacock currently only exists in North America. On the other hand, nothing seems urgent for Twisted Metal, which doesn’t yet have a release date and whose roster only seems complete recently.

As we already knew, the story of the series will revolve around a character played by Anthony Mackie, star of the MCU who plays Sam Wilson, alias the Falcon, in the films Captain America and avengers. Now described as a comedy with 30-minute episodes, the Twisted Metal series will also be able to count on executive producer and writer Michael Jonathan Smith, to whom we owe Cobra-Kai, a big hit from Sony Pictures Television on Netflix. Known for movies Dead Pool and zombielandRhett Reese and Paul Wernick will also carry the project as executive producers and screenwriters.

Twisted Metal is a high-octane action-comedy, based on an original idea by Michael Jonathan Smith, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Cobra Kai, Deadpool, Zombieland). The story of a talkative misfit who is offered the chance for a better life, but only if he manages to deliver a mysterious package in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll have to deal with savage marauders driving destruction vehicles and other road hazards, including a deranged clown who drives an ice cream truck too familiar“, can we read.

Clearly not as popular as Uncharted or The Last of Us, adapting a series like Twisted Metal presents a different kind of challenge for PlayStation Productions. On hiatus since 2012, the franchise franchise once piloted by David Jaffe is set to return to PlayStation 5 under the rumored helm of Firesprite. Released in theaters last month, the Uncharted film has exceeded Sony’s expectations and has already grossed over $226 million at the box office.
