/ Culture / TV / The Valeria series is an ode to female sexuality
The Valeria series is considered the worthy heir of Sex and the City, HBO's flagship program that has lifted the veil on many feminine subjects.
The Spanish series continue to shine on the Netflix streaming platform. After Casa de Papel, The ladies on the phone or Elite, now it's Valeria that is talked about a lot. We discover the daily life of a budding writer trying somehow to find the inspiration to get published in vain. Besides that, many adventures disrupt his life. His friends, all extremely attentive and caring also inspire him. Sexuality and feminine questioning are at the heart of this new series. Obviously, the comparison with Sex and the City was inevitable when this new program offered by Nettlix was released.
Valeria is an adaptation of Elisabeth Benavent's novel and makes the four friends in the series incredibly engaging.
A series that breaks stereotypes …
The strength of this series is that it manages to break stereotypes brilliantly. Valeria tries to write an erotic novel, at a time when her couple is struggling. Hardly inspired and affected by the impostor syndrome, she draws her inspiration from her loved ones, then on the internet. But it turns out to be a fiasco. Valeria tries to describe a fulfilling sexual life full of fantasies. You will understand: his vision of sexuality is not very realistic. This novel project will lead him to deconstruct the clichés and told the sexual journey of all women.
Valeria, it is a building path towards personal, professional and sexual fulfillment at the same time. It's self-discovery and it's a story of acceptance too. The character embodied by Diana Gomez embodies the perfect little sister of Carry Bradshow. Unhappy in love but curious and talented, this young woman is a breath of fresh air on the Netflix platform.
… To better explore female sexuality
The series has the merit of talking about taboo subjects without filters. Besides, she is banned at least 16 years for her relatively explicit sex scenes. We feel the will to produce an authentic and sincere series established, without complex, in our modern society. The characters exchange a lot of written but also vocal messages. Some sextos are sent and all female sexuality is explored. Valeria discovers her sexuality again by wanting a handsome stranger, masturbates and listens with great attention to the sexual adventures of her friends.
In addition, the series wants to be inclusive and all women will find their accounts there. From the best friend decidedly envious of a serious relationship to one who advocates free relationships to finally become attached to an LGBTQ female character … All the sensations, feelings and desires are represented to lift the veil on sexuality seen through the eyes of women today. And, in addition to the characters' sexuality, it is above all women facing their doubts and their emotions in all circumstances that are brought to light. From a professional point of view, their desire for independence or their relationship to the family … These four women tip evoke with modernity a universal feeling.
