fun, news, tips… what else?

Did you know ? Buckingham Palace employees must pass several exams before working for the Royal family of England. And in particular a very strange test.

You have to be highly qualified to work for the Queen of England and the tests given to her potential future employees are not easy. The head of royal recruitment, Tracey Waterman, had confided, in the documentary Sandringham: The Royals at Christmas, the conditions imposed on candidates wishing to work for the Royal Family of England. Among the many tests they must pass is one called the “tis dead fly.”

Tracey Waterman explained herself. “One of the tests I like to suggest, in order to see if a candidate has an eye for detail, is to place a dead fly, either in the fireplace or on the carpet”she said. “Once the dead fly is positioned, I bring the candidate into the room. I bring them into the room, gently, so that they have a chance to see the insect. I hope then that they will notice it , and hopefully pick it up.”

Few candidates pass this royal family test

This test, if it is surprising and singular, is crucial to be able to convince the Queen of England. “Out of 10 people, half will notice the fly. And in the end, only one in 10 people will reach down and pick it up”, explained Tracey Waterman. No doubt, it takes an eye for detail to have the honor of working for the royal family of England.

The personnel, on entering Buckingham, are housed and fed, and pocket a minimum wage of 22,500 euros per year. In any case, in view of the number of candidates who fail this extreme test, it is a job which, probably, is not given to everyone.
