Gims denounced on Instagram this Wednesday the categories of the Victoires de la Musique ceremony. The singer has announced that he wants to create his own award for rap.
Created in 1985, the Victoires de la Musique rewards artists who have marked the year with their music. Male and female artist, male and female revelation, album, original song, audiovisual creation or concert… the categories are numerous, but not representative enough of the current scene for some. This is the case of Master Gims. The singer ranted on Instagram on Wednesday to denounce the absence of rap in the awards ceremony broadcast on France 2.
gims lamented: “We are put into categories. When we talk about urban album of the year, it’s like saying ‘it’s the sub-album of the year’, it is pejorative. We have to stop with that.“ The star called for no longer to differentiate between rap and other musical styles. “There are different styles of music, pop, rock, rap… but when there are contests like that, you can’t win the album of the year on one side and the urban album of the year of the other, he still pointed the finger. We have to win the one that has sold the most.”
A Gims project “for culture”
So gims, 36, is ready to take action to change this trend. The brother of Dadju is ready to launch its own ceremony! “I want to organize my Victoires de la Musique, he announced with determination. I make a call for tenders directly I address myself to French billionaires. For culture.” A ceremony in which we can easily imagine finding the stars of the rap scene like Jul, Ninho, SCH, Booba or even Orelsan.
