After Driving license And ID card, it’s the turn of the vital card to make a bigger place on our smartphones. Still under test, the digitization of sesame is extending to new departments.

Since July 30, 2023, millions of French people have been able to use the Vitale card application on their smartphones rather than handing over their traditional smart card to the doctor. The test phase in 8 departments also seems to have gone well since 23 departments are now eligible.

Which departments are newly eligible?

As specified by the site applicartevitale.fr, residents of the following departments can now dematerialize their cards: Ain (01), Allier (03), Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (04), Alpes-Maritimes (06). ), Ardèche (07), Bas-Rhin (67), Bouches-du-Rhône (13), Cantal (15), Drome (26), Hautes-Alpes (05), Haute-Loire (43), Haute-Savoie (74), Isère (38), Loire (42), Loire-Atlantique (44), Puy-de-Dôme (63), Rhône (69), Saône-et-Loire (71), Sarthe (72), Savoie (73), Seine-Maritime (76), Var (83), Vaucluse (84).

The deployment of the application should continue gradually before covering the entire territory in 2026. As specified on the dedicated site “the opening to new departments and regimes is planned for 2024“. It is impossible to know exactly which departments will soon be eligible, but “health insurance will not fail to communicate with its policyholders» when the time comes, promises the SESAM-Vitale GIE.

What criteria to benefit from it?

To digitize your vital card, nothing too complicated, but you still have to meet certain criteria, namely:

  • Be affiliated with a health insurance fund, MSA or MGEN in a relevant department
  • Have an account on your organization’s website
  • Have an up-to-date identity document (identity card, passport, residence permit)

If you meet all of these criteria, then simply:

  • Follow the instructions displayed on the screen by the app
  • Scan your physical vital card (or enter your social security number by hand)
  • Enter your email address
  • Scan your ID
  • Scan his face
  • Choose a secret code

If everything is in order, you should receive an email maximum 48 hours after the request to finalize the activation of the application. This activation must be carried out quickly, because the data is not kept “only a few days», Specifies the site.

Don’t get rid of the plastic card right away

Once all these steps have been completed, the application can be used in the same way as a traditional plastic card at your doctor’s office. Be careful though, “equipping health professionals to be able to read the Vitale card app is gradually being done. It is therefore advisable to always keep your Vitale card on you», Specifies the GIE SESAM-Vitale.
