In ten years of career, he has become essential. A success which has not changed the juror of The Voice, as natural as ever, every Saturday at 9:10 p.m. on TF1.
You are once again sworn to The Voice. Has it become an addiction or every year you wonder if it’s relevant to participate?
Vianney: It’s true that the time it takes, while I have work in the studio, comes into play. This year, the experience still excited me enough that I went back.
Each season, the public criticizes you for certain choices. Aren’t you afraid of missing out on a gem?
We can be wrong about a performance or about a person who needs a little time to give the best of themselves. But it’s a long-term adventure and I now know how to predict who has the profile to win or not. The Voice. Some people don’t have a chance at that, and that’s okay. This does not call into question their talent, they are simply not in the right place, or at the right time, to capture the maximum amount of light. You also have to know how to tell truths that are not easy to hear, but we have all been through refusals. This is what makes music move forward.
You broke your red armchair twice. This time you are sitting in the seat of Florent Pagny. Are you going to be more careful?
(He bursts out laughing.) Already, even if others before me have sat in his place, I am extremely flattered because Florent means a lot to me. Afterwards, I would like to point out to you that this year, it is Mika who breaks an armchair. I must be getting old…
Or maybe it’s fatherhood. Would the young dad consider The Voice Kids ?
Not really. Honestly, I know how to do it very well with people my age, because I can talk to them without holding back. With a child, you have to be much finer than that and I’m afraid of getting to the point too quickly. I would rather share their carefree attitude a thousand times over.
We sense a reluctance to say too much about your life, your family, yet you announced the birth of your son on Instagram. Are you able to separate the private from the intimate?
It’s a protective instinct, nothing more. As the majority of people are caring, I want to share intimate things. You don’t realize until you have an audience that it’s a real connection. But there is a minority who can scare me. The ones who steal the privacy of a 30 year old guy who just writes songs. It’s true that it brought out things in me that I don’t like. So I focus on the positive, real people.
Over time, will we enter more into your intimacy through your songs?
I don’t think I have any filter in song, much less than in real life. My songs are always intimate because to make me feel good, I exorcise personal things.
