In the first season of the zombie series, we learn that a virus has spread inside every human being, but it only breaks out when the host dies. The dead awake again and are hungry for human flesh. So far, so clear. But viewers haven’t learned much more about the virus since then. Rather, the hit series tells the story of a group of people struggling to survive in the middle of the apocalypse.

Is a cure being worked on? Does it already exist? Can one be vaccinated or otherwise eradicate the virus? As far as the big picture about the end of the world is concerned, the viewer learns very little. But that absolutely has to change. Die-hard fans have been following “The Walking Dead” for twelve years now. Two offshoots were added. But the viewers have been through enough. You deserve answers. The death of numerous heroes, in between very weak seasons and long drawn-out storylines: it’s enough and the makers owe us all resolutions. When else if not for the big end of the series?

It has already been confirmed that Daryl and Carol will have their own spin-off, set after the events of The Walking Dead. But then it has to stay that way. The planned Rick Grimes films are welcome to bring the arc of the former hero to an end, but nobody is asking for further spin-offs.

But first things first: In February there will be new episodes of “The Walking Dead”. All episodes are available on Disney+.
