“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” introduces particularly nasty acid zombies. But what’s the deal with them? Producer Greg Nicotero gives a first insight.
More and more is known about “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”. In addition to numerous teasers and trailers, the first ten minutes of the first episode of the new TWD spin-off have also been published. While the episode begins quietly, showing the stranded Daryl’s journey through France, the story quickly takes a nasty turn.
Because Daryl is attacked in a warehouse while looking for supplies. Well, the battle-hardened Daryl should have expected zombies. But he hasn’t had to deal with such bad zombies yet.
Super zombies with acid blood present a new challenge for Daryl
Not only does Daryl have to fend off the zombies’ deadly bites, he’s not even allowed to touch the zombies. Because when his skin comes into contact with the zombies, a nasty acid burn occurs. The zombies’ blood also appears to be made of acid.
Director and executive producer Greg Nicotero reveals in an interview with TV Insider: “These zombies have mutated to the point that every touch and every bite results in severe burns. It changes all the rules.” The new zombies are called “Burners” in English, which is probably translated as “Verbrenner”/”Brenner” in German.
We can probably expect a few more zombie variants. In the finale of “The Walking Dead” there were already more advanced zombies that could climb over fences. In addition, the post-credit scene of “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” already reveals that Dr. Jenner has been in contact with French scientists who have discovered new zombie variants.
