Many fans were looking forward to it, but now there is bitter certainty: The announced “The Walking Dead” spin-off with Carol and Daryl has to do without Melissa McBride (Carol). Unfortunately, the rumors about McBride’s exit have been confirmed.

Now the spin-off will continue alone with Norman Reedus (Daryl). The reason for the change was that McBride cannot go to Europe for the filming. It is not known whether this is for personal or professional reasons. But why should the spin-off be filmed in Europe at all? Attentive TWD fans should pay attention here.

Yes, “The Walking Dead – World Beyond” wasn’t particularly popular and even TWD superfans probably would have preferred not to have seen this spin-off, but it provides the crucial clue. Because in the final scene of season two, we see where the zombie apocalypse began: in a laboratory in France.

In short: Dr. Edwin Jenner, the researcher we know from Season 1 of The Walking Dead, was in contact with the French research team who appear to have been instrumental in creating the zombie virus. A graffiti in the office says “The dead were born here”.

Whether Daryl and Carol now wanted to travel to Europe to actually elucidate the origins of the virus, we will probably not know. Maybe the two should just experience an adventure far away from Georgia after their experiences in the Commonwealth. In any case, Carol would have been able to prove her qualities as a seafarer again. After all, she was living as a fisherman at the beginning of Season 10.

She would certainly have organized the crossing across the pond, because such a long journey is a great challenge in the middle of the zombie apocalypse. It remains to be seen if the spin-off, which Norman Reedus is now single-handedly denying, will actually tell that story. So far, a start in 2023 has been maintained.

It is also unclear whether Carol will eventually appear in another spin-off set in the United States. You could still choose from the anthology series “Tales of the Walking Dead”, which is filmed in Georgia among other places, and “Isle of the Dead”, the Maggie and Negan spin-off, which is set in New York.
