From a weak, abused wife to one of the group’s greatest fighters, Carol has arguably undergone one of the most stark transformations in The Walking Dead.

Together with her husband Ed and her daughter Sophia, Carol meets Shane, Lori and Carl while escaping to Atlanta and joins the survivor camp with her family. It quickly becomes clear to the others that the intimidated mother is suffering from Ed’s domestic violence.

However, after her husband is killed by the walkers, her behavior slowly changes. Carol befriends the still shy Daryl. This friendship deepens even further when their daughter Sophia disappears in the second season. Despite all their efforts, the survivors only find the girl after she too has become a zombie. Since she doesn’t have the heart to save her daughter at this point, Rick takes on this task for her.

In Seasons 3 and 4, Carol finally finds her inner strength. She learns to shoot and becomes one of the best shooters on the entire team. However, when she kills two members of the survivors to protect the rest of the group from a serious infection, Rick banishes her.

Only after the Governor overruns the prison does Carol find her way back to the group. She saves the two girls Mika and Lizzie as well as Rick’s daughter Judith from a horde of zombies and then comes across Tyreese. But the merger is only short-lived.

Since Lizzie doesn’t understand the walkers and also suffers from a mental disorder, she kills her sister to prove to Tyreese and Carol that the walkers are not evil. Carol then kills the child because she poses a danger. Together with Tyreese and Judith, she continues the journey to Terminus in season 5 and soon notices that the refuge is not as peaceful as it seems. She frees Rick and Co. and brings the group back together.

Unsure whether she should stay with the group, Daryl convinces her to go after the people who kidnapped Beth. However, she is seriously injured and, like Hershel’s daughter, is taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. She is freed from the hospital in a risky rescue operation, but Beth dies.

When the group reaches the Alexandria Safe Zone, Carol once again takes on a different role. She plays the good housewife, but plans to steal the colony’s weapons together with Rick and Daryl in order to be prepared in case of an emergency. In the fight against the wolves, however, Carol quickly takes up arms again and confronts Morgan when she notices that he is up to something.

Negan and the Saviors question their views again. While she was previously convinced that killing was the only way to survive in the new world, she soon realizes that this behavior is destroying her. To avoid this, she leaves Alexandria. She is later found wounded by Morgan. When another Savior seriously injures her, she begs Morgan to let her go. However, he denies it. The two are picked up together by two members of the Kingdom.

She asks the King of the Kingdom to allow her to settle in a detached house near the Kingdom. She stays there for a while until Daryl visits her and tells her about the tragic deaths of Glenn and Abraham. Carol quickly realizes that pacifism is inappropriate in the fight against the Saviors. At the end of season 8, the Hilltop, Kingdom and Alexandria groups manage to defeat the Saviors. She returns to camp with Ezekiel, the leader of the kingdom.

After the war against Negan, new, more peaceful times have dawned in season 9. But that doesn’t last. The settlement is in danger of being overrun by zombies. In the fight, Rick is injured and dies while trying to save the settlement from the undead. But Rick survived and was washed away by the river. Jadis finds him and gets into the CRM helicopter with him.

After one last major battle with the Commonwealth, our heroes emerge victorious. Judith reveals that Rick is still alive and Michonne went to save him. A little later, Daryl sets off to look for his friends. He leaves Carol behind for the time being.

In the second season of the spin-off “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” Carol and Daryl are reunited. According to US magazine TVLine, season 2 of the new series will even be titled “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol”. It is very possible that Carol will also appear in the miniseries about Michonne and Rick called “The Walking Dead – The Ones Who Live”.

However, when he cheats on her with Michonne, the mother collapses and tries to take her own life in front of her daughter Sophia.

However, the attempt fails. But instead of being happy about it, Carol falls into an even deeper hole, feels rejected by the other survivors and seeks comfort from the Grimes, with whom she aims to have a polygamous relationship. However, when both of them reject this, she sees no reason to continue living, allows herself to be bitten by a zombie, dies and is struck down by Andrea after her transformation.
