The Warcraft license will be ported to mobile in 2022

In his financial results for the 4th quarter of 2021 published on Thursday February 3, 2022, Activision Blizzard King revealed the upcoming arrival of the Warcraft license on mobile. While we have been waiting for news on the mobile side for a while now, the porting of several licenses including Warcraft being planned for a few months now, we were waiting for this kind of news through a more direct and formal press release. But why not, after all?!

As a reminder, a supposed developer revealed in 2018 that a “Pokémon GO-style” mobile game was in development for the Warcraft franchise. Later, in February 2021, Blizzard announced that it was recruiting for the development of a mobile game dedicated to this same franchise.

Blizzard is planning substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022, including new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone, and will put brand new content dedicated to the Warcraft license on mobile into the hands of players for the first time.

Although we learned in the report dedicated to the 2nd quarter of 2021 that two mobile games dedicated to the Warcraft license were undergoing an internal testing phase, we don’t know much more to date except for one of them. seems scheduled for 2022. Will this be a potentially closed Beta phase? Again, no clear information although it is highly probable.

We already know that this will not have much (if anything) to do with the WoW Companion application and Hearthstone, the only common point noted with these being the free of this new game. Will it be a new opus of Warcraft adapted on mobile like Diablo Immortal? No idea, but the hypothesis is not to be ruled out for the moment.

Regarding the Warcraft franchise, we intend to deliver premium content more frequently to support and expand the World of Warcraft community. We’ve created several free mobile Warcraft experiences and they’re now in advanced stages of development based on our beloved franchise. This will create opportunities for current players as well as new fans to experience the Warcraft universe in an entirely new way.

But rest assured World of Warcraft players: this news is unlikely to impact you in any way. Like Diablo Immortal for the Diablo license, we strongly suspect that this new game will not impact World of Warcraft players by requiring them to have a smartphone to access certain content in Blizzard’s MMO or others. dreaded content of the same ilk. The two should coexist without too much problem, including in terms of lore (Diablo Immortal takes place as a reminder between Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III).

Finally, although this news will probably not affect World of Warcraft players very much in the long term, there is nevertheless excellent news for Blizzard’s MMORPG: content is planned for 2022! It may seem obvious with the imminent arrival of Patch 9.2 and the very recent announcement of a 9.2.5, but official sources are always better than some guesswork!

Let’s not cry wolf too quickly: we don’t even know what type of game this game will be yet! Warcraft-style RTS? RPG? Teamfight Tactics-style battler? License dedicated to pet battles or nothing to do with all this? Mystery, we will know more in the coming weeks obviously!

You wanted it? They did it: cross-faction instanced content is coming with World of Warcraft: Shadowlands Patch 9.2.5. Find out what all this will entail in the official developer announcement!
