The Watcher (Netflix): what dark true story inspired the series?

On the occasion of the release on Netflix of the mini-series called The Watcher on Thursday October 13, 2022, Télé Star reveals to you what dark true story inspired the creators of this fiction worn by Naomi Watts.

While the series Dahmer, carried by Evan Peters in the title rolea hit since it was posted on Netflix on Wednesday September 21, 2022, another fiction created by Ryan Murphy is starting to get people talking about it on the American streaming platform. This is the mini-series The Watcher, available since Thursday, October 13, 2022. Composed of seven episodes, this fiction, carried by Naomi Watts, is inspired by a chilling true story. It features the characters of the Broaddus couple, whose life changed after buying a house in New Jersey.

Ominous letters, bizarre neighbors and sinister threats… A family moves into a dream home and discovers that she has inherited a nightmarish situation“, such is the pitch of the mini-series The Watcher. When they had just bought themselves a beautiful residence for an amount of 1.3 million dollars, the Broaddus spouses were the butt of a crow posing as the caretaker of their home. Concretely, the couple received many hostile and threatening letters, which mentioned in particular their three children. Contacted by the Broaddus spouses, the former owners of this house had also received a letter thanking them”to bring young blood“, just before leaving.

The Watcher (Netflix): the culprit was never found

Afterwards, strangers have started breaking into this housethus forcing the father of the family to install cameras and an alarm system to protect his wife and children. He also hired a private detective, in order to carry out an investigation on all the people likely to be close to this house. In the end, the culprit was never found, despite another investigation by the police, and this dark story still remains a mystery today. The facts took place in 2014, and the Broaddus couple finally decided to sell their home in February 2015.

After a series of price drops, the house was withdrawn from sale in June 2015. The Broaddus have filed a complaint against the former owners for not disclosing the letters they had received. Their legal action coming to nothing, they put the house back on sale in the spring of 2016 but all offers have withdrawn“, specified for its part Netflix on the Tudum site. In the end, after having managed to rent it for a few years, the owners sold this house in 2019, losing no less than $500,000.
