The Watcher on Netflix: “horrible”, “frustrating”, “waste of time” … the end of the series is disappointing

The series “The Watcher” signs a new success for its creator, Ryan Murphy. On social networks, viewers express their disappointment following the last episode, which is far from unanimous.

Warning, spoilers! This article discusses the ending of “The Watcher”.

Following the success of Dahmer, duo Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan continue their exploration of true and terrifying stories with The Watcher. Composed of 7 episodes, the series, carried by a beautiful cast – from Naomi Watts to Bobby Cannavale via Mia Farrow – follows the nightmare of a family targeted by a stalker after their move in.

In his letters signed “The Watcher”, the stalker claims that the house of the new inhabitants is guarded from generation to generation. Above all, he seems ready to do anything to get the owners to leave the premises.

Although it seems straight out of a horror movie, this case really took place in 2014 in the state of New Jersey. The series follows the couple’s investigation and the game of suspicion that takes place in the neighborhood. The neighbors, almost all confused, then become perfect suspects.

If the different episodes are rather pleasing, it is clear that the end is disappointing. With The Watcher, the creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are not going to the end of their concept, however promising. On social networks, opinions are unanimous: the end of the series leaves a certain taste of unfinished business:

The ending of The Watcher has to be one of the worst endings I’ve seen on screen. They could have gone in several directions and that’s how they end up? absolutely awful.”

I just finished The Watcher. I know it’s based on a true story, but this ending turns the show into a huge waste of time.

The Watcher has a horribly written ending that makes you feel like you’ve wasted 6 hours of your life watching the show.”

The Watcher is available on Netflix.
