After two difficult years due to the Covid-19 health crisis, weddings are picking up again in 2022 and professionals are counting on a record number of ceremonies this year According to a study published on Monday (1), 41% of French non-husbands now plan to do so. This total even climbs to 76% among 18-24 year olds. But getting married has a cost: how to finance the celebration of your dreams? Freed from gauges and restrictions, the people interviewed want to organize their wedding as before, particularly with regard to the number of guests envisaged: 58 in 2022 against 50 in 2021. Result, the bill flies away: it rose 7528 euros in 2021 on average for 50 guests and climbing 8888 euros in 2022 for an assistance of 58 people. A jump of 15%, or 1360 euros.

To settle the bill, 76% of French people use their savings (+2 points since 2021). The massive increase in the amount of Livret A or Sustainable Development accounts over the past two years should help them even more. 47% of married couples also call on the help of their parents and relatives. Finally, 29% take out consumer credit.

Organic champagne and a second-hand dress?
While the French are relatively open to the idea of organizing a co-responsible wedding, this dimension is not a priority for 75% of them because it is perceived as too complicated to organize (69%) and costing more than a classic wedding (66%).
They could give in on the aspects involving the least deprivation (choosing a co-responsible caterer, choosing champagne from organic farming, avoiding distant weddings) but they would be less inclined to choose a honeymoon for humanitarian purposes (23%) , a 100% vegetarian menu (22%) or a second-hand alliance 22%.
Note that 46% of women would be ready to wear a second-hand wedding dress, compared to 36% of men for a second-hand suit.
There remains the question of the gift. If the French are considering a higher budget for their wedding, they have been reviewing the reduction for several years the budget allocated to gifts for a wedding to which they would be invited. Between 2019 and 2022, the gift budget decreased by 36 euros to 134 euros in 2022.
