The Weeknd brought party life from Las Vegas to Tampa. The artist is not celebrated for his Super Bowl halftime show.

The Weeknd (30) gave everything in the Super Bowl LV halftime show on Sunday evening. However, this does not seem to have been enough for many viewers in front of the TV sets. The 15-minute appearance of the Canadian at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, has been heavily criticized, especially on Twitter. His performance there is dismissed as "the biggest rubbish", "very bland" or even "the worst halftime show of all time".

Copied from the King of Pop?

The 30-year-old made a complete solo appearance, only a group of dancers and a few musicians supported him in the stands of the stadium. Flashing neon signs, colored lights and a hint of the cityscape were reminiscent of the Las Vegas party scene. The Weeknd wore – how could it be otherwise – the outfit of his alter ego, which he had often presented at previous appearances: black pants, black shirt, black tie, gloves and a red sparkling sequin jacket.

The artist apparently reminded many of a cheap copy of the late King of Pop Michael Jackson (1958-2009). Any comment on Twitter: "The Weeknds Show looked like Michael Jackson ordered on Wish." Also about the sound quality as well as the supposedly expandable choreography to hits like "Blinding Lights", "Earned It", "Starboy", "The Hills", "I Feel It Coming", "Save Your Tears" or "Can't Feel My" Face "lets out a lot of viewers. "Songs that you forgot before they are over," railed a disappointed viewer. Another writes: "'Everything will be better in 2021' has probably died since the halftime show at the latest."

Spared the Kansas City Chiefs a disgrace?

Another Twitter user sums up the happenings at Raymond James Stadium with a lot of irony: "The positive thing about the halftime show is that the Chiefs don't deliver the worst performance on the field." The Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers met in the NFL final on Sunday. The latter won the Super Bowl with 31-9.
