Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd hinted in an interview that he might adopt a new stage name.
The Canadian music star The Weeknd (33), his real name is Abel Tesfaye, could soon be on stage with a new name. “I’m on a cathartic path right now,” he said in an interview with “W Magazine”. He’s getting more and more ready to “close the Weeknd chapter. I’ll still be making music, maybe as Abel, maybe as The Weeknd,” the singer explained. But he still wants to outperform Weeknd. “And I will. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
The Canadian also hinted that this could be the last time he uses his stage name for the new record he’s working on. “The album is probably my last work as The Weeknd. It’s something I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say,” said the 33-year-old, who is the first musician in Spotify history is, which reached 100 million listeners monthly.
Series debut is imminent
However, before there is new music from him and possibly a new name, The Weeknd’s series debut is fast approaching. Alongside Lily-Rose Depp (23), he plays the role of Tedros, a lifestyle guru, in “The Idol”. The pop star co-wrote the series with “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson. The HBO production starts on June 5, 2023 on Sky Q and the in-house streaming service WOW.
The Weekend made his acting debut in 2019’s Uncut Gems. In the Netflix film, however, he played himself alongside Adam Sandler (56). As “Deadline” reported, the musician is also currently working on his feature film debut. In the production, for which he is also working on the script, he is said to be seen alongside Netflix star Jenna Ortega (20) and “The Banshees of Inisherin” actor Barry Keoghan (30).
