The Wheel of Time: will there be a season 2 on Prime Video?

The first season of The Wheel of Time has just ended on Prime Video. The second is already ordered. What do we know next?

The Wheel of Time, a fantasy series adapted from the novels of Robert Jordan, launched by Amazon has succeeded. From the first season, she found her audience. A success confirmed by the Nielsen institute, which measures audiences across the Atlantic.

According to Nielsen, the Prime Video series reached 1.16 billion watched minutes between November 15 and 21. A very good performance for a series that turns out to be more and more addictive over the episodes.

If the beginnings were timid, the sequel turned out to be much more convincing. The mythology unfolded with finesse and enough pedagogy so that those who do not know the work of Jordan do not feel left out. And the second part of the first season has kept its promises with debuts of answers and epic clashes.

And the rest?

Amazon ordered Season 2 six months before the premiere launched. This one is currently filming. In an interview with First, Rosamund Pike reveals that the episodes of season 2 “will globally adapt Robert Jordan’s books 2 and 3, namely The Great Quest and The Reincarnated Dragon. History will become larger, richer. The world is divided into several storylines, lots of new characters will appear …

The filming having started last July, it is not excluded to see the second season arriving in the spring or summer of 2022. Vernon Sanders, head of Amazon Studios, told TVLine : “Rafe Judkins [le créateur de la série, ndlr] and his team just sent us their first clips from the first episodes of Season 2, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what we have in store.

He also predicts a season 2 “richer and more impressive, which expands its universe in a more daring way.

Rosamund Pike will of course be back as Moiraine. But new faces will join her, including Ceara Coveney, Meera Syal of Broadchurch and Natasha O’Keeffe of Peaky Blinders. Alongside them will be Guy Roberts, Arnas Fedaravicius and Gregg Chillin, all of whom are expected to play recurring roles in the second season.

The rest of the Season 1 cast are also set to be back, with one exception. Mat Cauthon, originally played by Barney Harris, has been replaced without anyone knowing why by Dónal Finn of The Witcher. See you in 2022.
