The Wikipedia encyclopedia in full tussle with Russia


Moscow accuses the collaborative site of “disinformation” about the war in Ukraine.

Accused of misinforming Russian citizens about the war in Ukraine, the Wikimedia Foundation responds to the courts. The organization that manages the online encyclopedia Wikipedia will appeal a sanction imposed by Moscow: a fine of 5 million rubles (85,000 euros) pronounced at the end of April after several warnings from Roskomnadzor, the regulatory authority for telecommunications.

In its message accompanying the penalty, the Kremlin organ justifies its condemnation by refusing to remove the “disinformation” available on the collaborative site. What does it refer to? A list of incriminated pages is provided by the foundation. “Russian Invasion of Ukraine (2022)”, “Battle of Kyiv”, “War crimes during the Russian invasion of Ukraine”… All the cards have in common that they contain information on the “war” in Ukraine which began in February.
