The long-awaited season 2 of The Wilds arrives on Prime Video this May 6! The sequel to the adventures of the young castaways promises to be exciting, but first, a little throwback with 3 good reasons to catch up on the series.
An original and intriguing pitch
The first season of The Wilds, released in 2020, introduces us to a motley group of young girls on their way to Hawaii. Victims of a violent plane crash, they wake up as survivors on an isolated and inhospitable island…
Interspersed with flashbacks and interviews filmed after their rescue, the 10 episodes also introduce us to the lives of teenage girls, the contexts in which they grew up, and a common point that binds them: all have experienced significant trauma.
We understand at the end of the first episode that nothing in this disaster is accidental: a mysterious organization scrutinizes with cameras the slightest actions of the survivors, and influences the events. Leah, Martha, Fatin, Dot, Toni, Shelby and the whole gang are actually the guinea pigs of a strange social experiment…
A perfectly successful casting
Big bet made at the creation of the series, the choice of a cast of quasi-novice actresses is convincing. We immediately notice the excellent interpreter of Fatin, Sophia Ali, whom we have seen since in Uncharted. Erana James, who plays Toni, is also one of The Wilds’ revelations, as are Mia Healey, Shannon Berry and Jenna Clause as Shelby, Dot and Martha. It’s a safe bet that we will see these actresses on screen again very soon!

If the casting is so successful, it is above all because the characters are complex to embody, and have constantly evolving links. Thus, we can discover the budding passion between Shelby, a Catholic raised in the Puritan tradition, and Toni, much more open on the issue, the tormented relationship of Fatin and Leah who knew each other before the crash, or that of the twin sisters Nora and Rachel.
A series that breaks the codes
Focusing on the adventures of a group of teenage girls, The Wilds offers far more depth than one might imagine. The context of survival, the tension related to the surveillance of young women and their relationships allow the barriers between personalities to be broken down. This allows the series to intelligently address subjects that are sometimes still too taboo, such as eating disorders, homosexuality or religion…

And the sequel promises to continue in this direction, because the first season ends on a cliffhanger that kept fans in suspense:
