The American channel The CW has just unveiled a first trailer for “The Winchesters”, the prequel series to “Supernatural”, which looks back on the beginnings of the love story between Mary and John Winchester.
Before Dean and Sam Winchester, there were Mary Campbell and John Winchester, their parents. Two years after the end of Supernatural, the CW will explore the origins of the famous duo via a prequel series soberly titled The Winchesters which will set out to tell the meeting of the Winchester parents and the beginnings of their love story.
For the occasion, Meg Donnelly (American Housewife) and Drake Rodger (The In Between) take over the roles previously held in the original series by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith. This prequel, which transports us directly to the 70s, tells us about the youth of the emblematic couple from the point of view of Dean (Jensen Ackles).
The actor, who is also a producer of the series with his wife Danneel Ackles (The Scott Brothers), will also make an appearance in the first episode, as shown in the first trailer unveiled yesterday by the CW.
The Winchesters will follow 20-something John back home after fighting in Vietnam. A mysterious encounter that will lead him on the trail of his father’s past. During his journey, he crosses paths with Mary, a 19-year-old demon hunter, who is looking for answers following the mysterious disappearance of her own father.
Together, they team up with up-and-coming young hunters, Latika and Carlos, to help them uncover the hidden truths about their two families. Their investigation leads them to Ada, who could provide the missing pieces to their puzzle.
The secrets of the Winchesters and Campbells are buried deep, and despite the best efforts of Millie, John’s mother, to protect her son from a dangerous life of hunting demons, John and Mary are determined to carry on the family legacy, starting with starting their own family…
Around Mary and John will evolve a team of demon hunters composed of Nida Khurshid who camps Latika Desai, “an up-and-coming young hunter with a penchant for problem-solving and research“; Jojo Fleites as Carlos Cervantez, who has a talent”natural“to fight the demons and who will be”a source of positivity“when the team faces great danger; and Demetria McKinney as Ada Monroe,”a brilliant and insightful bookseller with an interest in the occult“.
As a reminder, this new spin-off series is the third attempt at a Supernatural spin-off after Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters, which unfortunately did not go beyond the pilot stage in 2014 and 2017.
Created by Robbie Thompson, one of the screenwriters of Supernatural, The Winchesters will be broadcast from fall 2022 on the CW.
