The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the long changelog of the next-gen update already published

Announced for very long months, the update next gen The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will finally arrive this week. the RPG of CD Project will take advantage of new graphics technologies on PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X|S, as well as on PC, via a free patch of which we already know the main lines.

Without further ado, here is the changelog of the update next gen from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

The update will upgrade your game to version 4.0. Below is the list of changes.

Changes specific to PC and next-gen consoles

  • Added global illumination and ambient occlusion in ray tracing.
  • Additionally, PC gamers with compatible hardware have an additional option to enable ray-traced reflections and shadows.
  • Added various mods and mod-inspired content to the game to improve the graphics and overall quality of the game.
  • We’ve included some of the community’s favorite mods, as well as our own tweaks to improve environments and cutscenes, make cobblestones look more realistic, and improve many backgrounds.

Among the mods created or inspired by the community, you will find:

  • The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project by Halk Hogan;
  • HD Monsters Reworked by Denroth;
  • Immersive Real-time Cutscenes by teiji25;
  • Nitpicker’s Chuckcash Patch;
  • World Map Fixes from Terg500.
  • Upscaled textures to 4K for various characters including Geralt, Yennefer, Triss, Ciri and Eredin.

All main characters, including Geralt, now cast a high resolution shadow even outside of cutscenes. Additionally, hair clipping through armor and other clipping bugs affecting armor have been fixed.

Environment improvements:

  • Added new weather type “Grey Sky”;
  • Updated sky textures;
  • Vegetation and water improvements;
  • Various mesh improvements;
  • Improved some visual effects;
  • Updated global environment lighting:
    • Added AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.1;
    • Added Photo Mode, which allows players to take stunning screenshots in the world of The Witcher 3;
    • Added an option to pause the game during cutscenes;
    • Added an optional alternate camera closer to the player character that reacts more dynamically in combat and when moving. You’ll find this new setting in Options → Game under Exploration, Combat, and Mounted Camera Distance.

PC-only changes

Added “ULTRA+” graphics settings on PC. These greatly increase the visual fidelity of the game. The graphics settings available with the ULTRA+ setting affect:

  • The number of characters in the background;
  • The quality of the shade;
  • Grass density;
  • The quality of the textures;
  • The visibility distance of the foliage;
  • Quality of the land;
  • Water quality ;
  • Level of detail.

Added support for DLSS 3. Only available with compatible hardware.

Changes specific to next-gen consoles

Improved overall graphics quality on next-gen consoles. This includes improved textures, better fidelity, higher quality shadows, greater draw distance, and higher crowd density.

Ray tracing mode :

Brings ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion with dynamic 30fps resolution scaling to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Performance mode :

Ensures smoother 60fps gameplay with dynamic resolution scaling on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

The Xbox Series S version does not offer ray tracing features. Quality mode brings higher resolution and better frame fidelity to 30fps, while performance mode targets 60fps and prioritizes smooth gameplay over graphics quality.

Added support for adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from DualSense controllers on PS5.

Added Activity Cards for PS5.

By registering for MY REWARDS in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, players can receive:

  • Nine-Tailed Vixen Swords;
  • Western White Tiger Armor;
  • Armor of Dol Blathanna;
  • Roach map.

Additional content

  • Added a new side quest, titled In the Shadow of Eternal Fire, to Velen. Its rewards are inspired by The Witcher series on Neftlix.
  • Added an alternate appearance for Dandelion inspired by The Witcher series on Neftlix. You can find it in Downloadable Content → Options.
  • Added alternate Nilfgaardian armor inspired by The Witcher series to Neftlix. You can find it in Downloadable Content → Options.
  • Added Chinese and Korean voiceovers. Their availability on consoles varies by region.

Practical changes

  • Added an option called “Quick Sign Throw”, which allows you to switch signs and throw them without opening the circular menu. You will find this option in Options → Game.
  • Added a new default map filter. This new filter hides certain icons such as “?” and boat icons to declutter the map. You can reactivate these icons by activating the “All” filter.
  • Adjusted the minimum height causing fall damage to allow players to survive larger falls.
  • Now herbs can be picked instantly with a single interaction no longer causing the extra loot window to appear.
  • Added options to dynamically hide the minimap and quest objectives when not in combat or using your Witcher Senses. You’ll find them in Options → Video → HUD Settings → Hide Minimap While Exploring and Hide Objectives While Exploring.
  • Added an option to walk slowly when playing with a controller. You can now walk slowly by moving the left stick slightly forward.
  • Added an alternate sprint mode option when playing with a controller. This mode is activated by pressing the left stick. You can find this option in Options → Command Settings.
  • Added an option so that inverting the camera does not affect target lock. You’ll find it in Options → Command Settings.
  • Improved the circular menu to allow you to dynamically change bombs, bolts and items in your pockets without opening the inventory.
  • Added option to change font size for subtitles and choices in dialogs. You will find it in Options → Video → HUD configuration.
  • Added other minor fixes, tweaks, and handy changes, including a few secrets for players to uncover.

  • Game
  • Added Full Combat Rebalance 3 mod from Flash_in_the_flesh, which includes balance changes and various gameplay fixes. We took a selective approach with this mod. Some items have been adjusted from what you’ll find in the default mod, while other items have been omitted.
  • Treasure Hunt: School of the Wolf Equipment: Fixed a bug that prevented opening the chest in the Signal Tower.
  • Distant Shores of Ophir: Fixed a bug where the blueprint could be missing from the chest of the bandit hideout.
  • Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Fixed a bug that could prevent Geralt from talking to the blacksmith or giving him the letter.
  • Race: Faster Than West Winds: Fixed a bug that could cause the quest to fail even if you won the horse race.
  • Echoes of the Past: Fixed a bug that could block the quest and prevent you from talking to Yennefer after defeating the foglings.
  • The Wine Wars: Fixed a bug that prevented you from completing the quest if you destroyed one of the required monster nests during exploration.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented, in some scenarios, from validating the clearing of the abandoned site of the ruined inn on the south bank of Ard Skellig.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Grandmaster Wolf School armor to be crafted without masterwork items.
  • Various minor fixes have been made to quests and cinematics.
