The Witcher 4 exclusive to Epic Games Store? CD Project responds

This is surely the best news of the day: a new The Witcher game has been made official by CD Projekt, with development under Unreal Engine 5. A priori, Cyberpunk 2077 and its extensions will therefore be the last representatives of the capabilities of the RED Engine, an engine that has had its day, when we look at the “just right” performance of CP2077 on new-generation consoles. But does a partnership with Epic necessarily mean exclusivity on the UE5 creator’s store?

Surprise! CD Projekt comes out of the woodwork to announce a new episode of the witcher saga with a sober announcement, announcing at the same time a development under Unreal Engine 5 which is excellent news, after the discomfiture Cyberpunk 2077.

No exclusivity in sight my captain

It is normal for some of you to ask the question after reading the official announcement of this new The Witcher game by CD Projekt Red, but there is nothing to worry about, the arrangements between Epic and the Polish studio only concern the exploitation of the Unreal Engine 5 engine for the design of this new chapter of the witcher saga. Ads of this kind, there is likely to be a lot of them in the future: the Unreal Engine 4 has made the heyday of dozens, even hundreds of studios working on multi-media productions and it will logically be the same for this new version.

Epic and the Unreal Engine 5

Scheduled to be available to everyone at the end of the year, the Unreal Engine 5 will sound, in our opinion, the real beginning of the new generation. There are already some pretty technically mind-blowing games on next-gen media, though. Epic Games’ tool should change the situation once and for all, by fully exploiting the specificities of each medium, while ensuring trouble-free development thanks to guidelines clear for developers. More and more studios are turning to Epic’s solution, instead of relying on in-house engines that are very expensive to develop, for results that are not necessarily up to par (we are thinking in particular of Japanese devs). If you want a good taste of what the UE5 can do, we recommend the Matrix Awakens playable tech demo, available as an exclusive download from the Playstation Store.

war-ukraine

Epic Games follows in the footsteps of many other video game publishers, and marks its disagreement with Russian military decisions. The company blocks purchase transactions in the country, without closing the servers of free games there.
