This is news that no one expected. While the series The Witcher prepares the arrival of its season 3 for next summer, it is also about to be upset. We learn tonight that Henry Cavill, the actor who plays Geralt de Riv in the show made in Neftlix, will not be back in season 4. He will be replaced at short notice by Liam Hemsworth.
The witcher changes his mind
The two actors as well as Netflix announced this evening: Henry Cavill will not be back in season 4 of the series. Why ? Well, that still remains to be confirmed, since Cavill simply sent a message of encouragement to his successor:
” My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will lay down my medallion and swords for season 4. In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take on the role of the White Wolf. As with literary greats, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent playing Geralt to see Liam’s perspective on this most fascinating and nuanced man. Liam, my good sir, this character is wonderfully deep, take the opportunity to dig and see what you can find there. »
It will be noted that the turn of this announcement could suggest that this change would only be temporary, and that Cavill could return as soon as season 5, if the series is renewed. But we do not have more information for the moment, and we just have to get used to the idea that the actor will simply not be present for season 4. The rest is still to be defined.
Geralt set aside for Superman?
The reasons for this sudden change can be many, but it’s hard not to see a correlation with the fact that Henry Cavill has signed his return as Superman. According to the latest echoes, the new management of Warner Bros wants to capitalize on the character as quickly as possible, with a new film which could be confirmed shortly (it is already more or less confirmed, but unofficially).
Since the actor will very quickly have to put on his tights and his cape again, it is possible that planning concerns are the cause of the change of actor for The Witcher. If so, that means that behind the scenes, Cavill already knows when he’ll have to shoot his next Superman movie…unless of course this conflicting schedule is related to other projects, given that the actor is in high demand. Anyway, we remain at the stage of speculation at the moment, but it is hard to understand why Netflix did not simply choose to postpone the filming of season 4.
We will therefore have to do with Liam Hemsworth, an actor who we saw in the saga The Hunger Gamesbut also in Independence Day: Resurgence. And yes, it is indeed the brother of Chris Hemsworth, aka Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
We are now waiting to have more details on this change, which should weigh heavily on the series, unless Cavill is back in the following season.
