The Witcher: Netflix renews the series for a fifth and final season

The Continent will soon be done with Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri and company. Series The Witcher, carried in its beginnings by Henry Cavill, will indeed conclude soon. While filming for season 4 has just started, Netflix announced that the show would indeed return for a season 5, but that this one would be the last.

An epic conclusion

Netflix has decided to grant an additional season to The Witcher in order to allow the series to have a proper conclusion.

“It is with immense pride that we begin filming the penultimate season of The Witcher with our sparkling cast, including exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia”said creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt to Tudum.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our series if we didn’t push our family of characters to their limits, so stick with us to see how the story ends.”

The last two seasons of The Witcher will therefore cover the three books by Sapkowski that he still has to adapt: The Baptism of Fire, The Swallow Tower And The Lady of the Lake.

New season, new Geralt

Season 4, which has begun filming, will introduce Liam Hemsworth (Hunger Games) in the role of the Witcher, following the departure of Henry Cavill at the end of season 3.

These new episodes will continue the adventures of Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) and Ciri (Freya Allan), as each makes their way through a Continent ravaged by war and its many demons. If they manage to integrate into the different groups they encounter, they may have a chance of surviving and, above all, finding each other.

Netflix released a short video announcing the start of filming for season 4 and the renewal of The Witcher on X (formerly Twitter). This gives an overview of the cast gathered to read a script and allows us to see the known faces of the show, but also the newcomer Laurence Fishburne (Matrix), who will play Régis, a character known from novels and video games The Witcher.

Season 4 of The Witcher should land on Netflix in 2025.
