“The Witcher” is facing a major upheaval. Instead of Henry Cavill, we see Liam Hemsworth as the witch in Season 4. The fans don’t like that at all and Netflix doesn’t seem convinced of the decision either.

- After the 3rd season, Geralt will be recast by Riva in “The Witcher”, instead of Henry Cavill, the witcher will be played by Liam Hemsworth in the future.
- This is causing the number of viewers to drop during the current third season.
- Netflix steps in and uses an unusual marketing strategy that shows how little the streaming service itself believes in the reshuffle.
In the current 3rd season of the Netflix series “The Witcher”, Henry Cavill wields Geralt of Rivia’s demon sword, but not for much longer. With the coming fourth season, the actor will end his work as a witch and turn to new projects.
However, the series should not end with Cavill’s departure, and “Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth will take his place in the future. But it seems that not even Netflix itself is convinced of this plan, because the streaming service runs an unusual marketing campaign for Season 3 that shoots at Hemsworth’s portrayal of the witcher.
The Witcher Marketing Campaign Touts Geralt Still In Season 3
Taking to social media Twitter, the official The Witcher account posted a picture, which read, “Yes, he’s still Geralt in The Witcher season 3.” A nasty dig at the season 4 recast and presumably also a desperate attempt to win fans back to their series.
The announcement of Henry Cavill’s exit was anything but good. Even before Cavill’s official departure, there were repeated reports of disagreements between the actor and the show’s producers. As a self-confessed fan of the book series and video games based on “The Witcher”, Cavill was not enthusiastic about how the series deviated from the original in terms of content.
Problems are said to have arisen several times because the team of authors even mocked the template in some cases. Cavill reportedly made the decision to get out after stepping back into Superman’s suit for Black Adam. Rumors started swirling that there would be a new movie starring him as a hero.
But Cavill’s Man of Steel crash-landed when new DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran announced that the new Superman: Legacy will focus on a new, younger Superman. Of course, many were hoping for a return from Cavill to The Witcher, but the actor is already planning a new series for Amazon Prime Video.
Can The Witcher Survive Without Henry Cavill?
As the alleged Netflix billboards already show, Liam Hemsworth has a very difficult legacy to inherit. He can’t do anything about the recast of Geralt and since the actor, like Cavill, is a fan of the “Witcher” saga, he’s probably not even a bad Geralt actor.
But many people are concerned with the principle and worry about what will become of “The Witcher” if Henry Cavill doesn’t intervene in some decisions from the script. Even if Henry Cavill’s cast was viewed critically at the start of the series in 2019, the actor was able to convince. Liam Hemsworth has to do the same now, but the number of viewers is already declining, because for many the series ends with Cavill’s departure and Netflix is also feeling that.
