The Witcher on Netflix: haven’t you seen the Blood Legacy prequel? Here’s what you need to know to understand season 3!

While Netflix posted season 3 of The Witcher a few days ago, here is a little recap for those who have not seen the prequel The Legacy of Blood last December.

As we know, Netflix wanted to create a Witcherverse on its platform. So far, the platform has produced three seasons of The Witcher starring Henry Cavill, an animated film titled Nightmare of the Wolf (2021) and a prequel, Legacy of Blood. In this mini-series in four episodes offered to subscribers in December 2022, the screenwriters explained many very important things in the universe imagined by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Ciri’s Legacy

Whether you are a fan of books and video games or you are a neophyte of the universe, you have surely understood that the character of Ciri (Freya Allan) is very important. We understand over the episodes that the princess of Cintra has an excessive power, the Hen Ichaer (Elder Blood). She is indeed the direct descendant of Lara Dorren, the first Elf to have received this gift. His blood is ancient and attracts the lust of North and South. A prophecy revealed in the prequel tells us that a person carrying this genetic characteristic will cause the Apocalypse.

Blood Legacy, as its name suggests, looks back at the history of the first elves and why they are now forced to live on the fringes of society. The prequel also tells us how the first Witcher came to be, while explaining what the Conjunction of the Spheres is. This cataclysm that took place 1500 years before Geralt was born caused several worlds to collide. Monsters and humans have invaded that of the Elves, putting their universe on fire and blood.

The conjunction of the spheres and what it involves

Some people, endowed with the famous Elder Blood, have the ability to travel between worlds and through time. Like Avallac’h, an elf that fans of The Witcher know and who was rightly introduced in the prequel. Interestingly, this character is seen in the post-credits scene, as he travels through time to the present day to follow Ciri.

We obviously understand that it is the Princess of Cintra who is the subject of the prophecy and that her role will be even more important in season 3 of The Witcher. The new episodes should make Avallac’h appear again, which is added to the long list of people who want to monopolize his power.
