The Witcher series has been renewed for a fourth season by Netflix, but with this renewal comes a big change. It’s quite simply the face of the series that will change. Henry Cavill is leaving the production of The Witcher and Liam Hemsworth will take over the lead role of Geralt of Rivia from season 4.
The streamer broke the news of the renewal and new cast on Saturday, followed by statements from Liam Hemsworth and Henry Cavill. Judging by the tone of their posts, the decision appears to be an amicable passing of the torch.
“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and swords for Season 4“Cavill said in a statement on Instagram.”In my place, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will take the mantle of the white wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent playing Geralt and with excitement to see Liam’s interpretation of this man among the most fascinating and nuanced. Liam, my good sir, this character has such wonderful depth, have fun diving into it and seeing what you can find.“

Henry Cavill has starred as monster hunter Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher since the Netflix series debuted in December 2019. The upcoming third season, which was set for release in summer 2023, will now be the the actor’s last with the series.
Over the years, The Witcher has become a flagship franchise for Netflix. A four-part prequel series starring Michelle Yeoh, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is set to premiere on Christmas Day. The change of cast for the lead role in the parent series following the departure of Henry Cavill underscores just how invested the broadcaster is in this brand.
Liam Hemsworth is best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games movies, alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. He’s also starring in Russell Crowe’s upcoming thriller, Poker Face.

News of Cavill’s return as Superman comes almost five years after the movie Justice League, which marked the actor’s last extended appearance as the DC Comics superhero. However, he made a cameo in Black Adam, appearing in a sequence that announces a battle between Superman and the anti-hero camped by Dwayne Johnson. Henry Cavill was allowed to take a break from The Witcher season 3 to film his appearance in Black Adam. Now he is leaving the show permanently.
