Netflix’s “The Witcher” will be without leading actor Henry Cavill from season 4. Will you still watch the new episodes with Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia?
The Witcher season 3 has come to an end. The witcher Geralt von Riva sets off in it to once again save his foster daughter Ciri – even if he follows the wrong track. He is willing to ignore his witcher code and flout the neutrality he has always maintained on political issues.
All of this sounds like a wonderful premise for an epic Season 4 – but there’s one major downer. It has been known for some time that Geralt actor Henry Cavill is leaving the Netflix series at the end of season 3. No official reasons were given for this, but rumor has it that Cavill didn’t approve of the direction the series was taking.
The team around showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich is said to have decided too often to disregard the book template and rewrite the story in the series. For Cavill, as a big fan of the books by Andrzej Sapkowski and the “The Witcher” video games, this is absurd. So he pulled the ripcord and ended his collaboration on the Netflix series. And many fans agree with him in this decision.
Since season 1 of “The Witcher”, witcher fans have been criticizing the series makers for not acting in the spirit of the book stories. But extremely critical fans are not just a phenomenon of the “The Witcher” series. Every adaptation of an existing work with a large fan base often also has a large number of critics who do not give new versions of the well-known stories a chance from the outset. For example, in the Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”.
But despite all the criticism of the Netflix adaptation of “The Witcher”, at least the main actor Henry Cavill managed to captivate many viewers and bring an almost perfect Geralt of Rivia to the screen.
Now that he’s exiting the series, many fans might opt out as well. Netflix still wants to continue the series, Henry Cavill’s successor is said to be “Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth. But Hemsworth will probably have a very hard time convincing existing fans of his Geralt qualities if they don’t tune in at all.
How are you going to handle Season 4 of The Witcher? Do you give the new Geralt a chance or do you draw a line after Henry Cavill’s departure?
