The world of video games will hold its own Cannes Film Festival in October 2023


This Festival aims to become the benchmark meeting place for brands, communities and various players in the video game industry, in Europe and around the world.can we read in the press release accompanying the announcement, which obviously does not fail to raise the economic weight of the field of video games among the various global cultural industries.

Behind this project, we find Antoine de Tavernost, CEO of the Auditoire agency (Omnicom group), and Robin Leproux, ex-boss of PSG and founder of Espot (a vast gaming space in the heart of Paris). As noted Le Figaro, the organizers won a call for tenders in the spring organized by the city of Cannes, which is co-owner of the brand. This five-year contract provides for an event over five days with several activities within the municipality.

Like the Cannes Film Festival, the Cannes Gaming Festival will open the doors of the Palais des Festivals for a first award ceremony, in the spirit of the city’s major events. From the following year, in 2024, the event intends to develop over a 5-day format, integrating professional meetings for the various market players, and a festival for the general public, in addition to the award ceremony.

The ceremony itself should be carried by an international jury composed of legitimate, known and passionate personalities“, to reward the creative talents of the world of gaming – the opportunity to slip the keyword metaverse among the main categories represented. This should be broadcast in streaming with the support of French and international influencers / streamers, and would be preceded by a large festive parade around hundreds of cosplayers, and a climb of the steps integrating augmented reality.
