The Xiaomi 14 Ultra on track to outperform the S24 Ultra in the photo from afar

Xiaomi revealed a good part of the photo specifications of the new Xiaomi 14 Ultra on Weibo… and in this area, the device looks promising. Its x5 zoom will thus have a more advantageous aperture than what the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers.

The founder and CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, published on some of the first official renders of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Expected during MWC 2024 next week, the device is therefore revealed a little in advance… especially since the brand has also shared, this time on the Chinese social network Weibo, technical information relating to the photo component of his new flagship. The opportunity to learn more a few days before the European announcement of the one that could overshadow Samsung and its Galaxy S24 Ultra, particularly on distance and low light photography.

But let’s start with the appearance of the machine. The visuals published by Lei Jun let us appreciate an elegant product, equipped with a rear surface in imitation leather and a large central, round island, bringing together the four rear photo modules of the device. We also see the metal frame of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, as well as its USB-C connection and its volume and lock buttons. An effective design that a previous leak had already suggested.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra will not be shy in photos

On the photo front, Xiaomi does not yet give us all the details we would like, but the brand still reveals the technical characteristics of the three most important sensors. The main module (1 inch) LYT-900 will thus be able to count on a variable aperture of up to f/1.63, in 50 Mpx. A resolution that we will find on the two zoom lenses, both of which will rely on an IMX858 sensor. The first will go up to 3.2 and can open at f/1.8.

However, it is the second that interests us the most. And for good reason, the latter goes up to x5 magnification while having the capacity to aperture at f/2.6. For comparison, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra x5 zoom was satisfied with an aperture of f/3.0 and that of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra does not go beyond f/3.4.

The larger aperture expected on the x5 zoom of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra should therefore allow it to capture more light than its competitor to deliver (we hope) better photos at a distance, in the evening or in slightly dark interiors. Response begins next week, with the device expected in Barcelona on February 25.
