The Xiaomi TV A2 arrive in France and… did not wow us

2

Does Xiaomi have a chance to finally make its mark on the TV market with its new A2 range? Without wanting to give in to pessimism and after having approached this TV, there is unfortunately little chance.

The television market is one of those that the Chinese Xiaomi has checked in its diversification strategy, so that as early as May 2020, we discovered the 55-inch Mi TV 4S probes in hand. Unfortunately, despite a fluid and pleasant user interface, this first model failed to convince us. And for good reason, its image quality was disappointing. More recently, in April 2022, we had the opportunity to test another Xiaomi television, the P1E 55. This time, the manufacturer made no secret of its desire to bet above all on a very low selling price (it can be found under the €400 mark). Another failure and the same problems: the image quality is not up to par and competitors are offering better at the same price.

Will things finally get better with the Xiaomi TV A2? We are not going to hide it from you, it seems to be off to a bad start. Still under Android TV, still controllable by voice thanks to the presence of the Google Assistant, the television that we were able to come across during an event organized by the brand did not really reassure us as to its ability to do better side of the picture.

Details and connections

Available in three diagonals of 44, 50 and 55 inches, equipped with a Dolby Vision “compatible” 4K Ultra HD panel, incorporating two 12 W speakers, offering wifi and Bluetooth connection modules in addition to Ethernet, the TV A2 insists on its ability to play the role of “intelligent home hub”. We will wait to be able to conduct all of our tests, but this reference seems to be on the way to doing less well than the best Xiaomi television tested so far, the 75-inch Mi TV Q1, whose display quality had obtained the note 4 stars out of 5 (for a final rating of 3 stars).

Small details: a 32-inch Xiaomi TV A2 is also planned, but it will be satisfied with a Full HD panel and lower technical specifications. As for those who want to avoid Android TV, they can turn to the Xiaomi TV F2 which will run on Amazon’s Fire OS (with Alexa). The marketing of these televisions in France has been confirmed, but we do not know the release window or the price list.
