Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party, was the guest of Europe 1 on Tuesday. For him, systemic racism cannot exist, but he underlines in front of Alexandre Le Mer that there is a problem of racism within the police. The problem must be solved by the government.

Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party, is clear: he rejects “systemic racism”, a contrario of the Insoumis. According to him, being a police officer does not mean that the person is necessarily racist. The politician does not want to make amalgams and generalities.

A problem that is likely to persist

“I know some and I know enough to say that this is not the case”, affirms Fabien Roussel speaking of the gendarmes and the police. “On the other hand, you still have to bear in mind that there is a problem of racism in the police. The young people they suffer say so”, he evokes at the microphone of Europe 1.

He even quotes Jacques Toubon, Defender of Rights, to emphasize that young people from ethnic minorities, such as blacks or Arabs, are 20 times more likely than others to be controlled. This climate creates anger and apprehension against the police for the national secretary of the PCF.

“The hierarchy” should condemn each time there are racist remarks when there is racial control. If not, the problem “will continue to persist”. “It causes this fracture between part of the youth and the police”, firmly asserts Fabien Roussel.
