The first motherboards based on the Z790 chipset could be presented during the summer, from the end of July.

Intel has confirmed this several times, its 13e generation of processors will be compatible with the Z690 chipset launched with Alder Lake CPUs. However, this will not prevent the American from offering a new chipset when the Raptor Lake processors are released.

PCIe Gen 5 SSD support

Called Z790, this new chipset will of course take over the strengths of the Z690, but also introduce PCI Express Gen 5 lines which improve support for only PCI Express Gen 4 on the Alder Lake chipset.

Until now, PCI Express Gen 5 was reserved only for the PCIe lines of the processor and whether it was the graphics card or the SSDs, it was not possible to use the chipset.

According to the often well-informed Moore’s Law is Dead, Intel is changing the game even if the Z790’s PCI Express Gen 5 will be reserved for SSDs. Additionally, Moore’s Law is Dead clarifies that motherboard manufacturers are not required to provide this feature.

However, this should be the trend insofar as it puts on an equal footing the Intel Z790 platforms and the AMD AM5s which will support PCI Express Gen 5 for the graphics card as well as for the SSDs.
