With unexpected ease, the Boston Celtics managed a clear win in the playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets, who were traded in the NBA as a champion candidate. National player Daniel Theis thus moves into the next round. Will the Dallas Mavericks soon follow Maxi Kleber?
National basketball player Daniel Theis is in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference with the Boston Celtics and ended the Brooklyn Nets’ NBA season unexpectedly early. The 116:112 in Brooklyn on Monday evening was the fourth win in the fourth duel of the playoff series. Despite only finishing seventh in the main round, the Nets were traded as a master candidate and extremely difficult opponent for the Celtics because of the skills of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. “Their record didn’t show how good they are,” Jayson Tatum told TNT. “But we believed in ourselves and didn’t look too far ahead.”
Tatum was the Celtics’ best pitcher with 29 points. Durant’s 39 points weren’t enough for the Nets to at least narrow down and force a game five. Theis had the best eight rebounds but only played a little under 20 minutes due to early fouls and the return of Robert Williams.
In the semifinals, the Celtics will face either the Milwaukee Bucks or the Chicago Bulls. Defending champion Bucks leads 3-1 in the series. After the semi-finals come the Conference Finals, after which it’s against the winner of the Western Conference for the championship in the NBA. The finals begin in early June.
With a 102:77 against the Utah Jazz, the Dallas Mavericks also have good chances for the next round and are now leading 3:2. Should the team around national player Maxi Kleber and star Luka Doncic also win in Salt Lake City on Thursday, the Texans will have survived the first round of the playoffs for the first time since the championship with Dirk Nowitzki in 2011. “Nothing is done yet, we still have to win one,” said Doncic, the best scorer of the game with 33 points.
The Philadelphia 76ers, on the other hand, missed the second loss in a row to close the sack against the Toronto Raptors. With the 102:88, the Canadians reduced the lead to 2:3 and can equalize in game six on Thursday.
