On the occasion of her 80th birthday on February 5th, Thekla Carola Wied (79) gave “Bild am Sontag” what she said was probably her last major interview and talked about age, life wisdom and death.

Wied has a pragmatic opinion on the big 80: “It’s better if you turn 80 than if you don’t.” But she also finds advantages in old age: “I remember that I used to be generally more insecure than I am today. On the other hand, I’m not so foolhardy today.” The more mature she became, the more carefully she thought about it, reports Wied. “By the way, that can’t hurt at any age,” said the actress.

Thekla Carola Wied: “I have always fulfilled my wishes”

Another recommendation from the actress to younger people is to always fulfill your wishes. “I have always fulfilled my wishes. To be honest, even in my old age, I have no shortage of wishes. My husband and I have plans, we still want to travel.”

The actress is particularly grateful for her relationship. Wied and her husband, the businessman Hannes Rieckhoff, are celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary this year: “My great happiness is that there are two of us. When you are alone and have to fight against loneliness, life is certainly different.”

No thoughts of death: “I prefer to live”

Death was also discussed in the interview. “It’s good to know that life is finite – and that you shouldn’t waste your time, but rather fill it with the things that make you happy and help you move forward.” However, the actress has not yet thought about her own death: “I prefer to live.”

The actress is particularly pleased that her series “I’m Marrying a Family” was recently shown again in the Christmas program: “Through ‘I’m Marrying a Family’, Peter Weck and I will probably live forever. At least we’ll stay in our prime forever.”
