BOBIGNY, Seine-Saint-Denis (Reuters) – The Seine-Saint-Denis Assize Court on Friday sentenced one of the three peace guards at the origin of the brutal arrest to a 12-month suspended prison sentence, in 2017, of Théodore Luhaka, known as “Théo”, seriously injured by a baton blow.

Marc-Antoine Castelain, 34, was prosecuted for “intentional violence resulting in mutilation or permanent disability”.

The court had requested a three-year suspended prison sentence against him.

“Théo”, aged 22 at the time of the events, was assaulted during an identity check in Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) in February 2017, and seriously injured in the anus.

The arrest was filmed by the city’s surveillance cameras. The broadcast of the video on social networks sparked a wave of national indignation and provoked several nights of urban riots.

The other peacekeepers, Jérémie Dulin, 42, and Tony Hochart, 31, were given a three-month suspended sentence for “intentional violence”. Six and three months suspended prison sentences were respectively requested against them.
