Theory meets practice – apprenticeship as an electrical engineer at voestalpine Krems

In the second year of his apprenticeship as a prospective electrical engineer, David is employed at voestalpine Krems with electrical systems and components for industrial engineering.

After middle school, David attended the polytechnical school in Krems and then started his apprenticeship at voestalpine. “I signed up for taster days at several companies, but I liked it best at voestalpine,” says the 16-year-old from Furth near Göttweig. David completed the first two years of his training in the training workshop, where the basic electrical and professional training takes place. The internship begins in the third year of apprenticeship, where he gets to know a wide variety of areas. In the second year of his apprenticeship, the prospective electrical engineer can already refer to a wide range of specialist knowledge in plant and operating technology: “We develop basic circuits in the laboratory, program industrial controls, get to know a wide variety of drive technologies and set up various exercises in installation technology.” Apprenticeship workshop also handles a wide range of project work for the company – “e.g. we assembled a control panel for our systems or charging stations for electric cars on the factory premises,” says David. Approximately 140 young professionals are being trained at the voestalpine locations in Lower Austria. There are around 20 apprenticeships to choose from.
