It will cost you no more than 0.17 ETH to take a ride in space, boarding the New Shepard rocket. Applications for the suborbital flight are open until May 22.

Uplift Aerospace is teaming up with Blue Origin, the company created by Jeff Bezos, to recruit a space tourist. The entry ticket is put into play in the lottery of an NFT collection named Starborn. After selection, intensive training is planned for the lucky winner who will fly 100 kilometers from the surface of the Earth, for a fraction of the usual price.

An 11-minute flight to the frontiers of space

We may have buried the possibilities of NFTs based on the Ethereum blockchain too quickly, since this new kind of company will allow a lucky person to fly away for eleven minutes and take advantage of weightlessness by offering themselves a breathtaking view of our dear planet. The Space+ mission is a suborbital mission, since this type of rocket does not go fast enough to be launched into orbit.

You must first be a member of the project’s Discord (more than 10,000 members) to mint one of the NFTs. On the evening of May 22 (May 23 at Paris time), five candidates will be selected and will have to express their interest in space through texts or videos. A vote of community members will eventually designate the crew of the New Shepard, the same type of rocket that Jeff Bezos took to make his first suborbital flight.

To participate, you must acquire an NFT from the Starborn collection for the very modest price of 0.17 ETH, “17” referring to the Apollo 17 mission carried out in 1972. Currently, this price corresponds to 384, 32 euros, a derisory sum while seats for Blue Origin’s suborbital journeys are usually negotiated between 175,000 and 200,000 dollars.

From selection to training

By carefully reading the physical conditions required for this kind of flight, you learn that you have to be between 1.50 m and 1.95 m, be able to climb the steps of seven floors in 90 seconds and, of course, not have the fear of heights. For the rest, tolerating a pressure of 3G (three times its weight) and 5.5G (5.5 times its weight) is a must, this during the ascent of the device and its descent in the atmosphere.

The exact date of the mission has not yet been announced and the training of the chosen astronaut should last between one and two months. The mission also involves advertising the collection of NFT Starborn once on board, which remains a modest requirement for those 11 minutes 100 km above the ground.
