“There were no casualties”: Russian regions report new drone attacks

“There were no victims”
Russian regions report new drone strikes

For the second time this week, drones are flying towards several Russian regions at night. In addition to the capital Moscow, the Pskov region is again one of the destinations. According to Russian information, there were no casualties and only minimal damage.

Several regions in western and central Russia are reporting a new wave of drone strikes. East of Moscow a drone was stopped near Lyubertsi on its way to the capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram. The air defense “frustrated another attempt to fly a drone to Moscow,” he said. “According to initial reports, there were no casualties or damage. The emergency services are on site.” According to the Russian daily “Isvestia”, air traffic had to be suspended again at the capital’s Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports.

Drone attacks and shooting down have been reported regularly from Moscow for some time. On Thursday, Russia had already reported the shooting down of a drone bound for Moscow. As on Wednesday, however, there are also reports of drone attacks from the Bryansk, Pskov, Belgorod and Kursk regions.

“An unmanned aerial vehicle was shot down over the region. There were no casualties,” said Alexander Bogomas, the region’s governor Bryansk. Nevertheless, rescue workers were on site. Bogomas blamed neighboring Ukraine for the attack.

Attack in the Russian rear

Roman Starovoit, governor of the region that also borders Ukraine Kursk, reported that the city of Kurchatov had been attacked by “two Ukrainian drones”. An administration building and a residential building were damaged, he explained to Telegram. Kurchatov is about 100 kilometers from the Russian border with Ukraine.

In the region Pskov the Russian air defense is said to have also shot down an unknown missile. Governor Mikhail Vedernikov posted a video on Telegram showing an explosion in the sky. There was no damage to the ground after the launch. At least four Russian transport planes were damaged or destroyed in a drone attack on a military airfield in the same region on Wednesday. Pskov is almost 700 kilometers north of the Ukraine in the actually safe Russian hinterland, but at the same time only 30 kilometers away from the NATO state of Estonia. From the region Belgorod no more precise information is available.

Russia and the annexed peninsula of Crimea have recently become the target of drone attacks on an almost daily basis after Ukraine announced in July that it would bring the war to its place of origin. Above all, the capital Moscow is a regular destination.
