Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne assured Monday in front of the Medef summer school that “there will be no tax increase”, especially for companies.
“Some fear that companies will be taxed more” but “there is no question of it”, specified the head of government after a speech by the president of Medef Patrick Martin, who denounced the government’s plan to postpone the abolition of a production tax.
Elisabeth Borne wanted to reassure the bosses by defending the policy of supply, which resulted in lower taxes and charges for companies.
This policy “works, it is not now that we are going to change course, there will be no tax increases”, hammered the Prime Minister. “Instability does not mix well with the activity of a company, you need visibility”, she recognized.
The president of Medef Patrick Martin affirmed a few minutes earlier that companies, “particularly industrial, have an urgent need” for an “immediate abolition” of the CVAE (Contribution on the added value of companies) that the government wants to spread until in 2027.
“This cancellation announced for 2024 has been integrated into our business plans, in terms of investment and hiring decisions,” he explained.
“Today we have a macroeconomic context that is more uncertain than we could have expected” and “everyone must do their part”, justified Elisabeth Borne, who confirmed the gradual disappearance of the CVAE and its abolition “as much as possible. as soon as possible” depending on the state of public finances.
