Long hair is considered a symbol of femininity par excellence, but these Miss France have decided to shake up beauty standards by wearing short hair, like Eve Gilles, our Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais-2023 and candidate for Miss France 2024.
While the date of the election of Miss France 2024 approach (the Beauty Contest will be held next Saturday, December 16), the regional Miss elections continue and last weekend, it was the Réunionnaise Eve Gilles who was elected Miss Nord-Pas-de-Calais-2023. The beauty queen is a candidate to represent France and its overseas departments, but she has almost failed due to a physical peculiarity : her size ! The 20-year-old was not tall enough to run for office when she first took her measurements. Fortunately, she was finally able to introduce herself by being measured a second time. Lately, it’s another physical peculiarity of Eve Gilles that’s getting a lot of attention: the length of her hair, because the Miss wears her hair short while the candidates generally have long hair, or at least a fairly long bob cut.
“I want to bring something new” declared the regional Miss to the press after her coronation as reported TV Magazine. A haircut that she did not wear before her regional election as Miss Hersin-Coupigny 2023. “I decided to cut my hair on a whim. It brought something out of me, it changed me and made me seem more like a strong woman. This is what I want to show” she explained. But if the radical decision of the Miss is a rare occurrence in the history of the competition, she is not the only Miss to have dared to shake up beauty standards. Elected Miss Pays de Loire 1991, before winning the crown of Miss France 1992, Linda Hardy was among the first Misses to wear very short hair. Initially worn straight with her short cut, she also sometimes benefited from the natural movement offered by her curly hair to sport dynamic styling with her short hair.
