EU digital policy up to 2030 includes blockchain targets

With the “Policy program for 2030: Way into the digital decade”, the European Parliament (EP) wants to support companies and public services in digitizing their work. Jörg “Faketoshi” Molt has to go to prison

Alleged Bitcoin fraudster Jörg Molt has been in court since September. Now the dice have fallen. Born in Kiel, he has to go to prison for infidelity – but not for fraud. That decided that Landshut District Court. The judge found the 49-year-old guilty of 262 counts of infidelity and sentenced him to a total of three years and three months in prison.

Crypto lender BlockFi confirms bankruptcy

Crypto lending service provider BlockFi filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 28. That comes from a corresponding press release out. Accordingly, one wants to “stabilize the business” and give the “company the opportunity to complete a comprehensive restructuring transaction that maximizes value for all customers and other stakeholders”.

Bitcoin soon means of payment in Brazil?

The Brazilian legislature has a full regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, which regulates the use of Bitcoin as a means of payment. The draft recognizes bitcoin as a digital representation of value that can be used as a means of payment and a fixed asset. Accordingly, the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) should bear responsibility for Bitcoin as a means of payment.

Italy increases crypto tax

Italy will tighten regulation of digital assets and expand taxation of crypto trading from 2023. That reported Bloomberg, citing the country’s budget plan. The government is planning a 26 percent levy on capital gains from crypto speculation of more than 2,000 euros. If citizens submit information on crypto profits as early as January 1, 2023, they only have to pay a tax of 14 percent.
